This ikat kimono was sewn in a small workshop that employs women who have been rescued from sex trafficking as well as at-risk women from the slums. Many of these women have been kidnapped or sold to brothels as little girls by their families. The factory's mission is to empower these survivors by teaching them valuable skill that gives them the independence to thrive.
The fabric was hand-dyed and hand woven on a loom, a process that takes approx three months to weave. No machinery is used.
